Yoga has been around for many thousands of years and is currently taught in many different styles and methods. However, what is not widely known is that Yoga can be used as a form of therapy. Using a combination of simple body postures, gentle movements, breathing and relaxation techniques almost any ailment can be treated and associated problems alleviated.
Yoga Therapy treatment can also involve gentle body manipulation (Shiatsu) and Marma Therapy (Acupressure) in order to help bring your body back to a state of maximum health and well-being.
Your first visit
Before treatment takes place a full consultation is conducted to check that there are no contraindications and to ensure that treatment is delivered in the most effective way for each client's unique requirements. Treatment takes place in a relaxing environment with soothing music and aromas.
Once the consultation has taken place you will then be guided through a series of simple Yoga postures that will be adapted to suit your level of fitness and ability. During these exercises you will be given expert guidance and help on making them comfortable and easy to practice. You will be given a Yoga worksheet with a sketch for each of the postures so it's easy to remember how to practice them at home.
Breathing exercises will also be incorporated into the posture work as well as simple meditations to help you relax and visualise the healing process. Gentle body manipulation and Acupressure may also be used for the alleviation of specific ailments. You are always fully clothed during this therapy.
Treatment is delivered by Karl Hemmings.
